About Us

WHAT IS GLOUCESTER ROTARY?

Rotary is a worldwide network of community volunteers. Gloucester Rotary Club has been a very active member of the local community for many years and is part of …the wider Rotary… network striving to improve things in Gloucester and further afield.

We hope that this will help as an introduction to some of the basics of Rotary generally and Gloucester Rotary in particular.

The essence of Gloucester Rotary

The motto of Rotary members around the world and Gloucester members in particular is “service above self.” That objective is based upon something called “The four way test.” It is the ideal of service that motivates Rotarians and is the reason for its activities in the community.

The four way test

The aim of Rotarians is to observe high ethical standards in both their personal and working lives. They are guided by the four way test which asks four questions in relation to everything a Rotarian thinks, says or does. The questions are:

  • Is it the truth?
  • Is it fair to all concerned?
  • Will it build goodwill and better friendship?, and
  • Will it be beneficial to all concerned?

Meetings of Gloucester Rotary

Gloucester Rotary members meet weekly to discuss the Club’s activities but also to have fun and fellowship. What we do is always being reviewed so that what is done remains relevant. At most meetings a guest speaker is asked to help keep members informed on issues related to community and other issues.

Meetings vary in their formality depending upon the occasion.
