Members of Gloucester Rotary I have had several Members ask how we came to become a provider of the Subaru car to the Purple House in the Northern Territory and have naming rights.
The story in brief.
Gloucester Rotary received a donation from a Member of the community who supports the work of our Indigenous population. They asked Rotary to manage this donation anonymously to provide the vehicle needed to transport patients to and from the Dialysis centre (Purple House) in Alice Springs and for Sarah (the Purple House CEO) to use to replace her aging Morris Minor.
Sue and Noel Trevaskis (the director for our Australian and New Zealand Rotary Zones) were co-ordinating the effort to obtain 2 vehicles; a Subaru and Toyota 4WD. The donation from Gloucester gave such impetus to the project that the second vehicle was funded by the joint efforts of Rotary across Australia.
Because the Bowden Brothers are indigenous and part of our Community I managed to get the tour dates of their concert next year to Tennant Creek on the rear of the vehicle. (Because this is our space … we can decide what we may like to replace it with next year after October).
I have met Sarah at several Rotary functions and she is the real deal. A trained Nurse who saw a need in the Indigenous population for a mobile dialysis unit and a “home” in the Alice. To this end she personally has donated years of her life to this work. She has won many awards personally and the Monday we arrived in the Alice the Purple House took out the Telstra Business of the year award. Sarah is featured in the current edition of Boss Magazine.
Team Gloucester this has been a real opportunity to place Gloucester front and centre in the Rotary world. The next Rotary Down Under will feature the story. The additional money that Gloucester Rotary donated went towards the second car. Phil Matthew and I hired the car to drive to Tennant Creek to meet with the Police, Rotary and Council to secure the location for the Bowden’s Red Centre Tour. Whilst there we used the boy’s music to open many doors. Gloucester can be proud of these guys. I won’t go into any further detail but would ask you to Google up Purple house and do some reading … you will be impressed. I am including some high res. Pics I took that cover the trip. The musical tour next year will gain National publicity … Great for Gloucester and great for Rotary.
